THIS PUBLIC EDUCATION BOOKLET DESCRIBES THE PURPOSE AND FUNCTIONS OF THE DISTRICT ATTORNEY'S OFFICE AND OUTLINES THE RELATIONSHIP OF THIS OFFICE WITH THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM AS A WHOLE.
Abstract
A BRIEF OVERVIEW OF THE PROSECUTION FUNCTION IS FIRST PROVIDED. THE WORKINGS OF THE ADMINISTRATIVE STAFF, THE INTAKE UNIT, THE PRETRIAL UNIT, THE DOMESTIC RELATIONS UNIT, AND THE CONSUMER PROTECTION UNIT ARE REVIEWED. SPECIAL UNITS AND PROJECTS SUCH AS THE HIGH IMPACT ANTI-CRIME UNIT, THE SECTION ON DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF INTOXICATING LIQUOR, THE INVESTIGATIVE UNIT FOR NEGLIGENT HOMICIDES, THE RAPE VICTIM ADVOCATE AND VICTIM ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS, AND THE LAW STUDENT INTERN PROGRAM ARE DISCUSSED AS WELL. ALSO INCLUDED ARE DESCRIPTIONS OF THE DISTRICT ATTORNEY'S OPERATIONS IN THE DISTRICT, CIRCUIT COURT, AND JUVENILE COURT.
