This study examines the relationship between a set of predictive variables (demographic characteristics, judicial criteria, intelligence, achievement, and personality) and the variable of maladaptive behavior in Georgia's correctional system in order to design a predictive model for maladaptive behavior that State prison authorities could use.
Abstract
Subjects were the male prison population of Georgia. The predictive variables were significant, although the strength of the relationship between variables was surprisingly low. Findings indicate that maladaptive inmates tend to receive lengthier sentences, to be younger, and to have slightly lower intelligence but slightly higher achievement. Implications of these findings for corrections and adult education are discussed, and recommendations are cited. Data tables and about 70 references are included.
