This CD-ROM presents the proceedings of the 2003 D.A.R.E. In-Service Training Conference, held June 23-26 in Atlantic City, NJ.
Abstract
The first part of the training was the Distance Learning/DARE Online training. Online training increases training opportunities for all law enforcement personnel, ensures the quality of instruction delivered on-demand, and reduces time spent away from employment and family. Training and education options are through the St. Petersburg College/Multi-jurisdictional Counterdrug Task Force Training Program. The second part of the training was an in-depth identification of various controlled and non-controlled substances and associated paraphernalia that would likely be encountered during law enforcement duty. The third part of the training was a Gangs and Drugs course. This course provided strategies to vigorously target, investigate, prosecute, and prevent the resurgence of criminal street gangs. The fourth part of the training related to Drug Induced Violence. This course was designed to acquaint students with different classifications of drugs of abuse. Examples of violent and/or criminal behavior were emphasized. Videotapes of various types of aberrant behavior were shown. The purpose was to teach police officers to recognize persons under the influence of drugs and to initiate proper response.
