This correspondence course was devised by the American Correctional Association to help correctional managers and supervisors motivate staff to be productive. The third book of the course covers using positive reinforcement, giving recognition, getting rid of undesirable behavior, and disciplining staff.
Abstract
Specific attention is paid to steps of positive reinforcement, guidelines for giving positive reinforcement, reasons why supervisors might hesitate to give recognition, common problems in giving recognition, ineffective strategies for changing undesirable behavior, principles of staff discipline, consequences of poor employee behavior, reasons why supervisors avoid using discipline, and guidelines for disciplining employees. The self-instructional format of the course enables correctional managers to study during their free time and work at their own pace.
