This manual presents activities that municipalities may emulate in planning and programming crime prevention initiatives for governments and citizens.
Abstract
The model resulted from a study of community crime prevention programs in Pennsylvania and elsewhere, conducted to develop a guidebook for implementing successful strategies and a technical assistance program to support the duplication of cost-effective programs. The model format is an activity flow chart comprising three major phases -- planning, operations, and analysis; activity steps are positioned within each phase with an explanation of their essential features. The guidebook provides a timetable depicting each activity step's duration. A total of 23 activity steps for the planning phase, 7 for operations, and 3 for analysis are given. A three-step supplemental operations phase is also provided. Sample forms, flow charts, and other program materials are provided; 45 references are appended. For other Pennsylvania crime prevention programs, see NCJ-87300 and 87302.
