This document outlines National Institute of Justice Standard 0215.01 on mobile digital equipment, an equipment standard developed by the Law Enforcement Standards Laboratory of the National Bureau of Standards.
Abstract
The standard specifies performance and other requirements for mobile digital equipment used by law enforcement agencies. Equipment purchasers can use the test methods described in the standard to determine whether a particular piece of equipment meets the standard, or they can have the tests conducted on their behalf by a qualified testing laboratory. Procurement officials can also refer to the standard in their purchasing documents and require that equipment offered for purchase meet the requirements, with compliance guaranteed by the vendor or attested to by an independent laboratory. Because the standard is designed as a procurement aid, it is necessarily highly technical. The standard specifies requirements related to minimum performance, user information, test sequence, environmental characteristics, message duration, information throughput, error sensitivity, frequency-modulated transceiver interface, display readability, display memory retention, display capacity, error control, and external data interface. 11 references and 9 figures
