Current Federal guidelines on equal employment opportunities hold that the use of psychological tests in employee selection can be used only if the instruments have a predictive validity with respect to a specific job in a specific organization, and that subjective judgment in an unacceptable basis for selection or rejection of a candidate.
Abstract
Recent research has focused on the use of the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory in the selection of police officers and their subsequent pre-service and in-service evaluations. MMPI scales which measure defensiveness and hysteria are positively correlated to job performance, while scales which measure social desirability, psychopathic deviation, paranoia, and mania have been negatively correlated. Recent findings show no significant relationship between scores on other scales including those that measure schizophrenic symptomatology and job performance evaluation. 17 references
