This 1994 annual report reflects Minnesota's continued efforts to achieve a balanced approach of prevention, treatment, and criminal justice in addressing the issues of drugs, crime, and violence.
Abstract
Minnesota continues to expand and enhance its community crime prevention programs and to ensure that cost-effective, comprehensive, and appropriate treatment programs are available to all citizens. Of funding provided to Minnesota by the Bureau of Justice Assistance, 35 percent is spent on prevention, 20 percent on treatment, and 40 percent on criminal justice. Funded projects focus on Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE), public defenders, Minnesota's Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, multijurisdictional task forces, specialized drug prosecution, community policing, gang intervention, intensive community supervision, and criminal justice records improvement. Attachments to the annual report provide additional information on a Minnesota student survey and a summary of drug task force activities.
