THESE ARE THE RESULTS OF A 1977 SURVEY OF 800 MICHIGAN HOUSEHOLDS TO DETERMINE THE ATTITUDES OF CITIZENS TOWARD THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM, THEIR RATE OF VICTIMIZATION, AND THE LEVEL OF FEAR OF CRIME.
Abstract
AMONG THE RESULTS, IT WAS NOTED THAT IN ONE-FIFTH OF THE HOUSEHOLDS, SOME MEMBER HAD BEEN THE VICTIM OF A CRIME IN THE PAST YEAR. MOST OF THESE CRIMES WERE AGAINST PROPERTY RATHER THAN PERSONS. THIS VICTIMIZATION LEVEL REPRESENTS A DROP FROM A RATE OF ONE-FOURTH OF THE HOUSEHOLDS REPORTED IN THE 1976 STUDY. THE CITIZENS ALSO PERCEIVE CRIME AS THE MOST IMPORTANT PROBLEM FACING LOCAL COMMUNITIES....KAP
