Abstract
THE LAWS DEALING WITH THE COMMITMENT OF CHILDREN TO INSTITUTIONS AND THE PROCEDURAL SAFEGUARDS AVAILABLE TO THEM ARE DISCUSED. THE RIGHTS OF CHILDREN WITHIN INSTITUTIONS FOR THE MENTALLY ILL ARE ALSO EXAMINED, AND REVISIONS IN PRACTICES THAT COULD LEAD TO STRONGER LEGAL PROTECTION OF THE RIGHTS OF MENTALLY ILL CHILDREN ARE PROPOSED.
