This is the orientation pamphlet for the medical corpsmen entering the Medical Corpsmen Program for the Cook County (Ill.) Jail and House of Correction. It describes the program, the organizational lines of authority, and the requirements for candidacy to the program.
Abstract
The pamphlet first describes the four duties of the corpsmen in the program: to staff the two intake screening facilities; to assist attending physicians on scheduled sick calls to prisoners requesting a physician visit; to assist the pharmacist in dispensing medicine prescribed by the attending physician and record the medication dispensal on medical history charts and on pharmacy dosage forms; and to assist in the specialty clinics. Emergency treatment and management is described for heart lung resuscitation, convulsive seizures, hemorrhage bleeding, epistaxis, and postextraction hemorrhage. The organizational lines of authority and the duties of each job category are detailed for the medical director, the attending physician, the chief corpsman and team leaders, and for staff corpsmen. Finally, the requirements for candidacy to the corpsmen program are summarized. Personal standards for participation and security measures applicable to the medical corpsmen are outlined. An organizational chart, and the two medical forms are included.
