The Maryland court system is experiencing an ever increasing workload; the docket of the court of appeals recorded the highest number of appeals since 1975.
Abstract
The number of appeals docketed in the court of special appeals approached the 2,000 figure, despite reduction produced by such innovations as civil prehearing conferences. Five additional judgeships were filled at the circuit court level. The district court data shows over 636,000 motor vehicle cases; more than 135,000 criminal cases; and over 509,000 civil cases in 1982. Better physical facilities are expected to be completed for the courts in 1983. The report discusses judicial revenues and expenditures; judicial administration; judicial conferences; the Maryland courts (court of appeals, court of special appeals, circuit courts, and the district court); court-related units; and judicial appointment, discipline, and removal. Tables, figures, 1982 legislation affecting the court, and judicial maps and members are provided.
