Statistics concerning court-imposed community service work performed by offenders in Maryland are presented.
Abstract
During the period covered by this report, court-imposed community service work performed by offenders in Maryland resulted in more than 2 million hours of work valued at nearly $8.5 million dollars to the people of Maryland. As of June 30, 1993, 15 counties and Baltimore City operated community service programs placing court ordered offenders at a variety of government or non-profit agencies. The Division of Parole and Probation provided similar services to the remaining seven counties. This report describes generally the community service programs administered locally as well as those administered by the Maryland Division of Parole and Probation. The Alternative Sanctions Network also is discussed. Appendixes include county-by-county summaries of data from community service programs, a listing of charging fees, and a directory of locations of community service programs. The county-by-county summaries break down the statistical information by number of referrals, number of hours assigned, number of successful completions, number of hours completed, and monetary value of the hours completed.
