STANDARDS FOR THE MANAGEMENT AND OPERATION OF HALFWAY HOUSES, AFTERCARE CENTERS, GROUP HOMES, NONRESIDENTIAL DAY PROGRAMS, AND OTHER COMMUNITY-BASED PROGRAMS FOR JUVENILE OFFENDERS ARE PRESENTED.
Abstract
THE MANUAL IS THE FIRST OF A PROJECTED SERIES OF FOUR VOLUMES OF JUVENILE STANDARDS TO BE PUBLISHED BY THE AMERICAN CORRECTIONAL ASSOCIATION'S COMMISSION ON ACCREDITATION FOR CORRECTIONS. THE PRINCIPLES THAT GUIDE THE COMMISSION'S STANDARDS-SETTING EFFORTS ARE STATED, AND THE APPROACH TO DEVELOPING STANDARDS FOR JUVENILE COMMUNITY PROGRAMS IS DESCRIBED. STANDARDS ARE ESTABLISHED FOR ADMINISTRATION, FISCAL MANAGEMENT, PERSONNEL, FACILITY, ADMISSION, PROGRAM, FOOD SERVICE, MEDICAL CARE AND HEALTH SERVICES, SPECIAL PROCEDURES, CITIZEN AND VOLUNTEER INVOLVEMENT, RECORDS, COMMUNICATION AND COORDINATION, AND EVALUATION. FOR ACCREDITATION PURPOSES, A WEIGHT OR VALUE (ESSENTIAL, IMPORTANT, OR DESIRABLE) IS ASSIGNED TO EACH STANDARD. THE MANUAL INDICATES WHETHER A STANDARD IS GENERALLY APPLICABLE OR WHETHER IT APPLIES TO A SPECIFIC CATEGORY OF PROGRAM (E.G., HALFWAY HOUSE, DAYCARE) OR AGENCY (PUBLIC OR PRIVATE). A GLOSSARY IS PROVIDED.
