The Manual of the Los Angeles Police Department is a composite of current policies, procedures, and rules of the department; it describes the department's organizational structure and lists the responsibilities and functions of the department and its employees.
Abstract
Following the general provisions of the manual, Volume I describes the primary, functional, and resource objectives of departmental policy as well as specific policies regarding personal conduct, community relations, community affairs, law enforcement operations, administration, support services, and affirmative action. The second volume, concerning organization and functions, deals with the police commission; offices of the chief of police, administrative services, special services, and operations; and the bureaus of fiscal support, personnel and training, support services, special investigation, headquarters operations, and geographic operations. The section on management rules and procedures pertains to supervision, general management procedures, planning and accounting, records and reports, supplies and maintenance, uniforms and personal equipment, personnel management, and disciplinary procedures. Communications, field activities, traffic control, traffic accidents, booking and disposition of property and prisoners, follow-up investigations, and outside police agencies are dealt with in the section on line procedures. The final volume covers clerical operations and includes various report forms.
