This report highlights the activities and findings of the various demonstration projects supported by the Manpower Demonstration Research Corporation (MDRC). A 6-year overview of the MDRC since its inception in 1974 is also provided.
Abstract
The projects reviewed include the National Supported Work Demonstration, the National Tenant Management Demonstration, the Youth Incentive Entitlement Pilot Projects, the Women In Need (WIN) Research Laboratory Project, Project Redirection (serving pregnant women and teenagers), and the Comprehensive Opportunities Project (providing services to disadvantaged young people). Findings from the projects demonstrate that supported work was of greatest benefit to mothers receiving Aid to Families with Dependent Children benefits; that work incentive programs are highly successful, particularly for black youths; that immediate job search assistance has proven helpful; and that individual planning for ongoing employment and educational services is a necessary component of job counseling programs. Financial statements are appended, and tabular and graphic data are included.
