ISSUES CONFRONTING CORRECTIONAL ADMINISTRATORS IN THEIR ATTEMPT TO CREATE AND MAINTAIN CONSTRUCTIVE PROGRAMS, STRESSING THE NEED FOR CORRECTIONAL POLICY.
Abstract
INDIVIDUAL SPEAKERS COMMENTED ON THE CHANGING INMATE POPULATION, INNOVATIVE CORRECTIONAL PROGRAMS, LEGAL ISSUES, METHODS AND PROBLEMS IN PLANNING, AND EMPLOYEE-MANAGEMENT RELATIONS. ALSO DISCUSSED WAS A NORTH CAROLINA PROJECT CONCERNING THE IDENTIFICATION OF COURT-RELATED JUDICIAL DECISIONS. OTHER LECTURERS CONSIDERED ACTIVITIES OF THE AMERICAN BAR ASSOCIATION IN THE FIELD OF CORRECTIONS, AND THE ROLE OF THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT IN IMPROVING CORRECTIONS. THE APPENDIX CONTAINS A SUMMARY OF TWO CASES WHICH DEAL WITH PRISONERS' RIGHTS, AN OUTLINE OF MAIL REGULATIONS, A WORKSHOP PROGRAM, AND A ROSTER OF THOSE IN ATTENDANCE. THE DOCUMENT CONTAINS A BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT SEARCH, A SYSTEM FOR ELECTRONIC ANALYSIS AND RETRIEVAL OF CRIMINAL HISTORIES.
