This guide will enable the user to conduct a self-assessment of enhanced supervision in his or her district, and to identify changes in policy, practices, training, and equipment that will improve enhanced supervision.
Abstract
There are four sections to the guide: (1) Preparing for the Assessment (how many and what kind of cases to assess, how to select an assessment team, how to notify your office that the assessment is to take place); (2) Assessing Offender Compliance (instructions for assessing the extent to which offenders are complying with the terms of their supervision, forms on which to record and summarize offender compliance data); (3) Assessing Supervision Activities (instructions for assessing the supervision activities of officers and supervisors, forms on which to record and summarize these supervision activities; and (4) Taking Action (a checklist to reflect what importance officers and managers give to 14 supervision activities, a checklist to reflect how officers and managers allocate their supervision time, questions to ask staff on how supervision can be improved in four key areas, suggestions for communicating findings to others in the system).
