This management manual for a prosecutor's office presents essays on a guide for self-study, performance rating for prosecutors, basic information systems for the prosecutor, charting paperflow, forms and forms design, and word processing.
Abstract
The major foci of self-study guide are (1) operations, which pertain to the major functions of the attorneys in the office; (2) administration, which pertains to resources, systems, procedures, and controls necessary to support operations; and (3) planning and program development, which pertain to short-and long-term goals. The essay on performance rating for prosecutors is intended to help supervisors evaluate and rate their subordinates, so that achievements will be rewarded, areas for improvement identified, and inadequate performance brought to the attention of both top management and the employees involved. Major components of basic information systems for the prosecutor are described in another essay, and the essay on charting paperflow discusses the proper charting of paperflow in a prosecutor's office, which consists of recording systematically and in appropriate detail the movement of documents from the point at which they enter the flow through each step of the process to final disposition. The rules of forms design and how they apply to a prosecutor's office are described in another presentation, and the concluding essay considers word processing under the topics of equipment and its use, work station layout, personnel, procedures, and implementation. Graphic illustrations and sample forms are provided in the various essays.
