STATISTICAL RESULTS ARE PROVIDED AS AN APPENDIX TO A SURVEY ON THE MAGNITUDE AND DEVELOPMENT OF CRIME IN THE NETHERLANDS.
Abstract
THE QUESTIONNAIRE USED IN INTERVIEWING A SAMPLE OF THE POPULATION IS PRINTED IN FULL. IT CONTAINS QUESTIONS ON POSSIBLE EXPERIENCES WITH DIFFERENT KINDS OF CRIMES AND ATTITUDES TOWARD SUCH EXPERIENCES. CRIMINAL ACTS WERE CLASSIFIED INTO 10 CATEGORIES: BICYCLE THEFT, MOPED THEFT, THEFT FROM A CAR, CAR THEFT, PICKPOCKETING, BURGLARY, PHYSICAL VIOLENCE, PHYSICAL VIOLENCE WITH SEXUAL INTENTIONS, PHYSICAL DAMAGE CAUSED BY A MOTOR VEHICLE, AND DAMAGE TO PERSONAL PROPERTY. THE TABLES SHOW THE PERCENTAGE OF VICTIMS OF DIFFERENT CRIMES IN GENERAL, OF VICTIMS WHO REPORTED THE CRIME TO THE POLICE, AND OF VICTIMS WHO SIGNED A POLICE REPORT, ACCORDING TO SEX, AGE, SOCIAL BACKGROUND, AND SIZE OF TOWN WHERE THE VICTIM RESIDED. CORRELATIONAL COEFFICIENTS WERE DETERMINED BETWEEN THE DIFFERENT VARIABLES AND A REGRESSION ANALYSIS WAS EXECUTED OF THE DIFFERENT CRIMES DEPENDING ON THE BEHAVIORAL VARIABLES OF REPORTING AND SIGNING A CRIME REPORT. -- IN DUTCH.
