THE AUTHOR INVESTIGATES SOCIETY'S ATTITUDES TOWARDS CRIME AND TERRORISM, EXAMINES THE HISTORICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF POLITICAL TERRORISM AND TERRORIST ACTS UNDERTAKEN BY CRIMINAL GROUPS, AND SUGGESTS PREVENTIVE MEASURES.
Abstract
THE DISCUSSION PRESENTED IN THIS ARTICLE IS GIVEN WITHIN A MACROCRIMINOLOGICAL FRAMEWORK - THAT IS, THE STUDY OF CRIME COMMITTED BY OR AGAINST LARGE GROUPS. AFTER BRIEFLY REVIEWING SOCIETY'S DEFINITIONS OF CRIME, THE AUTHOR PRESENTS AN HISTORICAL REVIEW OF SEVERAL CRIMINAL ACTIONS COMMITTED BY OR AGAINST GROUPS OF PEOPLE. THESE INCLUDE PIRATE BANDS AND AMERICAN GANGSTERS. AN HISTORICAL REVIEW OF POLITICAL TERRORISM IS THEN PRESENTED, FROM CRIMES AGAINST THE STATE IN ANCIENT GREECE TO MODERN REVOLUTIONARY ACTIVITIES. THE AUTHOR CONCLUDES THAT THERE IS A DIRECT RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN TYRANNY AND TERRORISM, AND PROPOSES A SERIES OF MEASURES TO ALLEVIATE THE PROBLEM OF TERRORISM. THESE MEASURES INCLUDE REDUCTION OF VIOLENCE IN SOCIETY, TOLERATING ANGER, AND INSTITUTING PREVENTIVE POLICE AND COURT PROCEDURES. --IN FRENCH...DMC
