The Louisiana Office of Juvenile Services is working with the Girl Scouts organization to help female delinquents, including the learning disabled, to develop life skills.
Abstract
The basic program, One Girl/One Council, is designed to provide female juvenile offenders additional support, encouragement, and positive interaction when they return home from placement. Since the program began a little over a year ago, it has expanded to include group home programming with followup upon release, activity centers in urban areas, program aide training, and a 14-day wilderness survival expedition. A significant number of the girls involved are learning disabled. The Girl Scouts have an extensive, highly professional, and comprehensive training program for working with the disabled. Life skills taught by the Girl Scouts include money management and job-search skills.
