FIRST OF TWO VOLUMES WHICH DISCUSS THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN JUVENILE DELINQUENCY AND SCHOOL MALADJUSTMENT AS REFLECTED IN THE RESULTS OF FRENCH RESEARCH.
Abstract
THE TARGET SAMPLE FOR THIS STUDY WAS 566 DELINQUENT JUVENILES DRAWN FROM A REPRESENTATIVE SAMPLE OF REFERRALS TO THE FRENCH JUVENILE JUSTICE SYSTEM BETWEEN OCTOBER 1964 AND OCTOBER 1965. THE AUTHOR FINDS AND DISCUSSES SIGNIFICANT CORRELATIONS BETWEEN DELINQUENCY AND SEVERAL MAJOR VARIABLES RELATING TO THE EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM. THESE VARIABLES INCLUDE EDUCATIONAL CAREER PATTERNS AND VOCATIONAL ORIENTATIONS PECULIAR TO A SYSTEM OF COMPULSORY SCHOOLING; SCHOOL ATTENDANCE; ADJUSTMENT TO SCHOOL WORK; ACHIEVEMENT; AND NON-PARTICIPATION IN GROUP ACTIVITIES. PROBLEMS OF SOCIAL MALADJUSTMENT, DOMINANT PERSONALITY TRAITS, AND FAMILY SETTING (ESPECIALLY LIVING CONDITIONS AND FAMILY IMPACT ON THE EDUCATIONAL PROCESS) ARE ALSO EXAMINED. NATIONAL DATA RELATING TO THE FRENCH JUVENILE JUSTICE SYSTEM IS INCLUDED. FOR VOLUME TWO, 'ORGANIZATION OF DISORDER,' SEE NCJ-20408. --IN FRENCH...ELW
