An indepth study of the Computer System Division's operation of the police computer system focused on identifying and recommending implementation of subsystems that will provide information to management in the Kansas City Police Department (Missouri) while lending support to the operational elements of the department.
Abstract
Through systems analysis and extensive interviews, the task identified 14 subsystems that should be developed: Timekeeping, Personnel, Property/Evidence Management, Fleet Vehicle (fuel dispensing), Fleet Vehicle (parts and maintenance), Case Tracking, Inventory, Computer Assisted Dispatching I and II, Fiscal Management, Productivity Analysis, Licensing/Commissioning, Administrative Records Index, Booking, and Crime Analysis. Several resources were identified as necessary to implement the proposed subsystems, including additional computer equipment, software packages, and technical personnel. The total additional resource cost for the current and next 5 fiscal years will be $4,390,643. Tables and figures are provided. Appendixes include technical documentation, interview data sheets, and a list of abbreviations.
