REPORT ON THE RESULTS OF A SURVEY OF THE ATTITUDES OF A GROUP OF STATE LEGISLATORS REGARDING A SELECTED GROUP OF NATIONAL ADVISORY COMMISSION STANDARDS REQUIRING SPECIFIC LEGISLATIVE IMPLEMENTATION.
Abstract
THIS 1974 SURVEY WAS CONDUCTED AT SIX MEETINGS ATTENDED BY LEGISLATORS FROM ALL 50 STATES - A CORRECTIONS SYMPOSIUM, AN INTERGOVERNMENTAL RELATIONS CRIMINAL JUSTICE TASK FORCE MEETING SPONSORED BY THE NATIONAL CONFERENCE OF STATE LEGISLATURES, AND FOUR MEETING OF THE COUNCIL OF STATE GOVERNMENTS' REGIONAL LEGISLATIVE CONFERENCES. SURVEY QUESTIONS DEALT PRIMARILY WITH COURTS AND PROSECUTIONS, CORRECTIONS AND PAROLE, AND PRIVACY AND SECURITY OF CRIMINAL HISTORY INFORMATION SYSTEMS. RESPONSES WERE FOUND TO INDICATE SOME DIFFICULTIES IN THE IMPLEMENTATION OF NATIONAL ADVISORY COMMISSION STANDARDS AND GOALS, PARTICULARLY THREE RELATING TO CONVICTED OFFENDERS. HOWEVER, AN OVERALL RECEPTIVE ATTITUDE TOWARD CRIMINAL JUSTICE REFORM WAS NOTED. QUESTION-BY-QUESTION RESPONSES ARE SUMMARIZED IN TABULAR FORM.
