Legislation Extending or Removing Statutes of Limitation for Offenses Against Children (Current through December 31, 1993)

NCJ Number

Date Published
1994
Length
14 pages
Annotation
This document summarizes all State statutes that toll, extend, or eliminate time limitations for charging criminal offenses relating specifically to child victims.
Abstract
General statutes of limitations that apply for all felonies without specific reference to the age of the victim or children as a class of victim have been eliminated from this compilation. When a statute extends or tolls a general statute of limitations, reference must be made to this general provision to determine applicable time limitations. Several States, including Kentucky, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wyoming have no statute of limitations for criminal felony prosecutions.
