TOPICS COVERED IN A COURSE AT THE ACADEMY IN HILTRUP, WEST GERMANY TO TEACH A SCIENTIFIC AND INTERDISCIPLINARY APPROACH TO POLICE LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT FUNCTIONS.
Abstract
THE TOPICS WERE CHOSEN TAKING INTO CONSIDERATION THAT THE COURSE WAS TO BE 80 HOURS OF DISCUSSION AND LECTURE AND THAT NEITHER INSTRUCTORS NOR STUDENTS HAD FORMAL BACKGROUNDS IN LEADERSHIP OR MANAGEMENT SCIENCE. THE COURSE BEGINS WITH AN OVERVIEW OF BASIC STYLES, PATTERNS, AND APPROACHES TO LEADERSHIP. TOPICS THEN COVERED INCLUDE CRISIS MANAGEMENT, ORGANIZATION THEORY, LEADERSHIP TECHNIQUES, PLANNING, SUPERVISORY CONTROL, AND COMMUNICATION. SPECIAL EMPHASIS IS PUT ON DECISION-MAKING AND ISSUING ORDERS. MATHEMATICAL, COMPUTER, AND OTHER TECHNICAL ASPECTS OF THESE TOPICS ARE TREATED ONLY BRIEFLY AT THE PRESENT TIME. --IN GERMAN
