While there is no shortage of leadership, it is often not recognized when not attached to high position or title or when leaders fail to recognize their own leadership abilities.
Abstract
This author differentiates between managing and leading. While managers control and contain that which is already known, leaders create and liberate, seeking out the unknown. Likewise, managers administer systems and are process driven, focusing on efficiency, but leaders inspire people and are cause driven, focusing on effectiveness. Leaders concentrate on placing the right people in the organization to run it well. The two constant characteristics of leadership identified here are altruism and character. This author suggests overturning the current pyramidal structure of management to find true corporate leadership.
