This paper synthesizes directions for the future of law- related education (LRE) and offers recommendations to sustain the LRE momentum in the future.
Abstract
The authors conclude that the full potential of LRE remains largely untapped. Although much progress has occurred since the inception of the first school-based LRE programs; and although there has been a proliferation of programs in alternative settings, much work remains to be done if these efforts are to be sustained in the future. There is no magic formula to sustain LRE in the future; however, if the wealth of knowledge and experience amassed over the short span of LRE's existence is carefully explored, a strategic plan can be constructed that will sustain the momentum in the years to come. A concerted effort among LRE practitioners is warranted. Practitioners must ensure that quality program implementation, community outreach, professional networking, and thorough evaluation are interrelated and ongoing processes. Through collaborative action, vision, and perseverance, LRE will be sustained and enhanced. 16 references
