Responses of 188 police officers from 123 of Ohio's smallest municipal police departments to a survey conducted in 1981-1982 are analyzed.
Abstract
These police departments displayed a smaller percentage of blacks (1 percent to 9 percent) and females (4 percent to 7 percent) than did their counterparts throughout the State. Further, nearly 70 percent of the small municipality officers were under age 35, as compared to 80 percent of the officers throughout the State. Statistical data on educational levels, prior experience, and on administrative, patrol, and investigative tasks are provided. In addition, the performance frequency for seven selected physical activities is noted. Forty-nine tables are included.
