Uniform Crime Reports statistics cover the incidence and circumstances of death and assaults of Federal, State, and local law enforcement officers in 1984.
Abstract
Four charts and 17 tables present statistics pertaining to felonious line-of-duty killings of sworn Federal, State, and local officers having full arrest powers. A total of 72 officers were killed in 1984, with half slain in arrest situations. One chart and nine tables highlight assault data on sworn local, county, and State officers. Vehicular patrol officers were victims in 80 percent of the assaults. Four charts and eight tables present similar data for assaults on officers employed by six Federal agencies.
