ACTIVITIES REPORT OF PROJECT LEARN, A TEN-DAY TRAINING SESSION IN MANAGEMENT SURVEYS AND ANALYSIS DIRECTED AT MUNICIPAL POLICE PLANNING.
Abstract
PROJECT LEARN COMBINED LECTURES AND DISCUSSION PERIODS TO ACQUAINT THE FOUR PARTICIPATING MANAGEMENT-LEVEL POLICE OFFICERS WITH SURVEY METHODS AND TECHNIQUES OF ANALYSIS AND PLANNING. DURING THE PROJECT THE PARTICIPANTS APPLIED THEIR NEW SKILLS TO SUCH MANAGEMENT TASKS AS DETERMINING POLICE MANPOWER REQUIREMENTS AND ASSESSING THE NEED FOR MUNICIPAL POLICE SERVICES IN A SPECIFIC TOWN. THIS REPORT DESCRIBES THE RESULTS OF THESE PRACTICAL EXERCISES AND OUTLINES THE LECTURE TOPICS AND READING INCLUDED IN THE COURSE. PROJECT LEARN, ALTHOUGH JUDGED AS SUCCESSFUL BY ITS PARTICIPANTS, WAS NOT CONTINUED BEYOND ITS PLANNED FIRST PHASE. THIS WAS DUE IN PART TO ITS LIMITED RETURN IN TERMS OF MEN TRAINED VERSUS PROJECT EXPENSE.
