These nine news articles describe efforts to promote cooperation between the public and private sectors on security issues, the use of DNA profiling and other identification techniques, and the increased State regulatory involvement in private security.
Abstract
A Florida prosecutor has encouraged several kinds of cooperation with banks and other businesses. In Detroit, an annual seminar brings private security professionals and law enforcement officials together to discuss training, surveillance equipment, and many other topics. DNA profiling is increasingly used, although many court challenges of laboratory reliability have been successful. Hair testing is receiving growing interest as a drug testing method that is more accurate and acceptable than urine testing. A program called Operation Bootstrap was established in 1985 by the International Association of Chiefs of Police to provide free corporate management training for police administrators and officers. Finally, a cooperative program among Illinois State law enforcement, banking security managers, and senior citizens' groups is designed to help end a scam that has caused senior citizens to lose their life savings. Table showing requirements for security guard licensing and training by State.
