Abstract
The leaflet explains what to do if a partner or relative is living in the home, if the home is empty, if the person is a tenant in a rented accommodation, if the person lives in a hostel or residential care home, and if the person is an unsentenced or sentenced owner-occupier. Additional sections explain the council tax and how to handle payments for water, gas, and electricity. Readers are also advised to have someone check their home while they are in prison. Sample letter to the landlord; letter to request or accompany the housing benefit application form; claim for income support housing costs from the benefits agency; letter to lender requesting interest-only payments until sentence or release; and a letter requesting a council tax exemption, discount, or benefit
