REHABILITATION OF THE PRISONER THROUGH IMPROVED COMMUNICATION WITH HIS FAMILY IS THE GOAL OF THE WORKSHOP WHICH TEACHES COMMUNICATION SKILLS AND OTHER RESOURCES TO HUSBAND AND WIFE.
Abstract
MOST TREATMENT AND REHABILITATION IS AIMED AT THE PRISONER ALONE. THE WORKSHOP TRIES TO INCLUDE THE FAMILY OF THE PRISONER, ESPECIALLY THE WIFE, IN THE REHABILITATION PROCESS. IT ATTEMPTS TO MAKE THE INMATE AWARE OF THE CHANGES TAKING PLACE IN THE FAMILY DURING HIS ABSENCE AND PREPARE HIM TO DEAL WITH THEM AFTER HIS RELEASE. THE WORKSHOP EMPHASIZES THE WORK THAT COUPLES NEED TO DO TOGETHER: TO MAKE A CLEAR DECISION ABOUT STAYING TOGETHER, IMPROVE COMMUNICATION, LEARN TO SOLVE PROBLEMS, LEARN METHODS OF BEHAVIOR MODIFICATION, AND KNOW WHERE TO LOOK FOR HELP WHEN IT IS NEEDED. QUESTIONNAIRES WERE USED TO MEASURE THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE WORKSHOP. FOLLOWUP QUESTIONNAIRES WILL BE SENT OUT 3 MONTHS AFTER COMPLETION OF THE WORKSHOP. A DAY BY DAY OUTLINE OF THE WORKSHOP IS INCLUDED TO HELP THOSE PRESENTING THE PROGRAM. THE OUTLINE INCLUDES GUIDELINES, EXERCISES, AND RESOURCES. NO REFERENCES ARE APPENDED. (RFC)
