The variable description list and codebook are provided for the 1979 Juvenile Detention and Correctional Facility Census, a mail survey which determined the number and kinds of juvenile detention facilities with a resident population of at least 50 percent juveniles.
Abstract
An introduction describes the study and discusses data collection procedures, file structure, information processing, and codebook information. Included in the data are the number of juveniles held as of December 31, 1979, the breakdown of the numbers in each type of facility, as well as by residents' sex and race. The number of staff is given for each facility, broken down into employee categories. The data set also includes facility expenditures. The data are available in two formats: a card-image file and an OSIRIS data set.
