Abstract
THIS REPORT, SUBMITTED BY SENATOR BURCH BAYH OF INDIANA, COVERS THE SIXTEEN DAYS OF HEARINGS CONDUCTED ON THE PROBLEMS OF JUVENILE DELINQUENCY. THE TOPICS DISCUSSED INCLUDED THE FOLLOWING: THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE JUVENILE DELINQUENCY PREVENTION AND CONTROL ACT OF 1968; THE NATURE AND EXTENT OF BARBITURATE ABUSE AND ILLICIT DIVERSION OF BARBITUATES FROM LEGITIMATE CHANNELS OF DISTRIBUTION; AND THE ILLICIT DIVERSION OF METHADONE ALSO COVERED WERE THE DEVELOPMENT OF COMPREHENSIVE JUVENILE DELINQUENCY LEGISLATION, THE PROBLEMS OF RUNAWAY YOUTH, AND THE REGULATION OF HANDGUNS, LEGISLATION DEVELOPED OR PROCESSED BY THE SUBCOMMITTEE IS ALSO OUTLINED.
