Abstract
The President of the United States, the Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Attorney General, the Governor of Virginia, and 40 other chief judicial officers of the States and the States' Attorneys General attended a meeting at which addresses and papers were presented. The participants in the final session passed a resolution calling for the organization of a National Center for State Courts. Its consensus included unification of the court system of each State, criteria for the selection, tenure, compensation, retirement as well as discipline and removal of judges; more efficient use of judicial manpower; practical means for improving court dockets, calendars, procedures, and techniques; and the development of court improvement programs at grass root levels. Also included in this volume are an annotated bibliography of resources regarding court systems, court administration, judges, and the administration of criminal justice, and an appendix listing conference participants.
