This document highlights the law reform research undertaken in 1992 by the Canada Department of Justice.
Abstract
The first section focuses on the issue of multiculturalism and justice. Individual studies focus on hate propaganda and hate crime, multiculturalism and jury selection, barriers to legal education for first-generation immigrants, complaint and redress mechanisms relating to racial discrimination, legal problems faced by recent immigrants in Vancouver, and youth and adults in British Columbia's correctional facilities. The second section describes other law reform research, including studies on the preliminary inquiry process, the effectiveness of the 1985 drinking and driving amendments, competing and conflicting principles in government responses to juvenile delinquency, the potential of regulatory negotiation strategies.
