Abstract
TOPICS OF INTEREST AT THE MARCH 1978 JUDICIAL CONFERENCE SESSION WERE MULTIDISTRICT LITIGATION, COURT ADMINISTRATION, UNIFORM RULES OF DISCIPLINARY ENFORCEMENT, DEPOSITIONS IN FOREIGN COUNTRIES, THE OUTSIDE EMPLOYMENT OF LAW CLERKS AND SECRETARIES, DISPOSITION OF FEDERAL COURT RECORDS, CIVIL ARBITRATION, JUDICIAL DISABILITY, DIVERSITY JURISDICTION, THE CIVIL RIGHTS IMPROVEMENTS ACT, ATTORNEY FEES, JUDICIAL REVIEW OF VETERANS' CLAIMS, APPELLATE JURISDICTION OF THE U.S. SUPREME COURT, THE NATIONAL COURT OF APPEALS, STUDENT TRANSPORTATION, CLASS ACTIONS, COLLATERAL ESTOPPEL IN ANTITRUST CASES, AND THE ENFORCEMENT OF STATE CUSTODY ORDERS. THE TRANSFER OF CASES TO OTHER COURTS, THE RESIGNATION OF JUDGES, TERRITORIAL JUDGES, AND APPELLATE COURT REVISION WERE ALSO DISCUSSED. CONSIDERATION WAS GIVEN TO FAMILIAL RELATIONSHIPS, JUDICIAL DISQUALIFICATION, THE FEDERAL MAGISTRATE SYSTEM, BANKRUPTCY LEGISLATION, PROBATION, SENTENCING, CRIMINAL CODE REVISION, DOMESTIC SURVEILLANCE OF FOREIGN INTELLIGENCE, AMENDMENTS TO THE SPEEDY TRIAL ACT, ACCESS TO FINANCIAL RECORDS, BILINGUAL COURT LEGISLATION, JURY COMPOSITION, CRIMINAL JUSTICE ACT IMPLEMENTATION, AND RULES OF PRACTICE AND PROCEDURE (CIVIL, CRIMINAL, AND APPELLATE RULES). SUBJECTS COVERED AT THE SEPTEMBER 1978 JUDICIAL CONFERENCE SESSION WERE COURT ADMINISTRATION, BUDGETING, JUDICIAL CONDUCT, THE FEDERAL MAGISTRATE SYSTEM, ADMINISTRATION OF THE BANKRUPTCY SYSTEM, PROBATION AND SENTENCING, CRIMINAL LAW AND CRIMINAL CODE REVISION, OPERATION OF THE JURY SYSTEM, AND RULES OF PRACTICE AND PROCEDURE.
