This self-help workbook for women who may have emotional and physical problems associated with the trauma of rape is intended to be both educational and therapeutic.
Abstract
Each chapter focuses on a particular rape-related topic and gives facts and information about rape and its effects on survivors, and also guides women through a series of self-reflective exercises that involve thinking, feeling, and writing. The exercises are meant to help women review the circumstances and situations of their rape and its aftermath, to shed a different perspective on the rape experience, to validate thoughts and feelings, and to heal the wounds and scars of rape. The workbook is organized in two sections. The first part is for women who were raped sometime ago and who are dealing primarily with mental and emotional repercussions of having been violated. The second part is for women who were recently raped. This part provides information about matters that require prompt attention, such as obtaining practical and emotional support from family and friends, securing medical care, and deciding whether to report the rape to the police and prosecute the offender.
