This videotape and manual focus on myths and facts related to crack and cocaine use, present interviews with recovering addicts and others regarding adverse impacts of crack and cocaine lifestyles, suggest ways to help peers and loved ones, and provides guidelines for teachers on how to incorporate the video into drug prevention education.
Abstract
The manual emphasizes that videos support and enhance prevention education programs, that the video does not replace teaching, and that educational videos need thoughtful introduction and follow-up. The manual covers learning objectives, the crucial concepts to be covered in the prevention program, and suggested student projects, and a student review worksheet. The video presents the perspectives of two adolescent journalists regarding cocaine and crack, together with the perspectives of a drug offender, an undercover narcotics officer, and an emergency room physician regarding adverse impacts related to health problems, crime, prostitution, gun violence, and death. Drug users explain how they began to use cocaine or crack and how it has affected their lives. The videotape advises viewers that they can help if someone they know uses cocaine or crack and that by helping they let the person know that they care. The video also notes that using drugs is a personal decision that people make on their own. List of resources
