Abstract
The statistics show the entrance requirements for sworn personnel, the minimum educational requirements of new recruits, the educational requirements for promotion of supervisory officers, and the inservice training requirements of police officers. Data also cover inservice training provided during fiscal year 1980 and the entry-level training of police recruits. Data came from a survey initially distributed in March 1981 to all agencies with full-time, paid police officers. The response rate was 100 percent for cities with 5,000 population or more, 73 percent for cities with 2,000 to 4,999 population, and 42 percent for cities of less than 2,000. Data are arranged by municipality, in descending order by population. For related volumes giving additional Iowa police statistics, see NCJ-88880-1 and 88883.
