Abstract
Book chapters focus reasons why people steal motor vehicles and methods used, vehicle identification, specialized methods of identifying stolen vehicles, light truck identification, and trailer identification. Book chapters also cover truck, trailer, and cargo theft; discuss motorcycle theft and identification; and describe special problems in vehicle identification and investigation. The authors emphasize the importance of developing information sources to facilitate the apprehension and prosecution of motor vehicle thieves and include a list of items that vehicle theft investigators should consider when preparing court cases.
