This manual gives background information and step-by-step instructions for conducting and recording the results of a forensic medical examination of deaths and injuries.
Abstract
The examination is designed to aid in the determination of the manner of death, the mechanism of an injury, the disability resulting from an injury, and the circumstances of the case. Specific information is gathered by the forensic toxicologist, the forensic serologist, the anthropologist, the entomologist, and the forensic psychiatrist. The guidelines cover the routine procedures used in medicolegal investigations, the nature of trauma to specific areas of the body, mechanisms of death, and mechanisms of trauma. They also explain specific forensic problems and methods of addressing them and discuss the preparation of presentation of evidence.
