This book is designed as an instructional textbook for individuals interested in beginning a career as a private investigator, as well as a resource manual for later reference.
Abstract
The first chapter introduces concepts of investigation; reviews the history of investigation, the criminal justice process, and civil law; and outlines relevant legislation about private investigators, the investigator's professional code of ethics, and tools for skillful report writing. Subsequent chapters deal with specific issues related to private investigation -- narcotics, undercover investigations, surveillance techniques, general investigations, interview and interrogation procedures, legal research, and worker's compensation claims. The final chapter examines the importance of collecting and preserving physical evidence, case preparation, and courtroom testimony. 2 appendixes and 14 references
