Abstract
In this introduction to the volume, Misinformation Concerning Child Sexual Abuse and Adult Survivors, an overview is provided on the special edited collection of articles included that shed light on the issue of child sexual abuse and adult survivors by confronting the facts and countering the frequent misinformation spread by special interest groups. The consequence of misinformation is the overshadowing in the dissemination of accurate information. Researchers and clinicians offer information on the impact of societal denial causing evidence to be ignored, the purposeful use of misinformation as a legal defense strategy to misrepresent and distort the facts regarding the long-term effects of CSA, and clinicians and mental health professionals apprehension in treating patients due to False Memory Syndrome advocates and the threat of a malpractice suit.
