Abstract
THE MARKED SHIFT IN CRIME CONTROL PHILOSOPHIES WHICH ARE CHARACTERISTIC OF THE MID-1970, POST-WATERGATE YEARS, ARE NOTED. SIGNIFICANT CONTEMPORARY PRACTICES OF POLICE ARE HIGHLIGHTED. CHAPTERS ON THE CRIMINAL JUSTCE SYSTEM COVER CRIME AND CRIME CONTROL IN A DEMOCRATIC SOCIETY, STRUCTURE OF THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM, AND THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE PROCESS. A SECTION ON THE DECISION NETWORK DISCUSSES DETECTION AND ARREST, CONTEMPORARY LAW ENFORCEMENT ISSUES, PROSECUTION AND ADJUDICATION, SENTENCING, CONDITIONS OF SENTENCE, AND RELEASE AND REVOCATION.
