The Hungarian Institute for Police Research, which operates under the auspices of the Ministry of Justice, conducts sociological research concerning police organization and public security and is also consulted to help in the resolution of concrete law enforcement issues.
Abstract
The Institute collected background information in preparation for the legislative debate on the Police Bill. In conjunction with the Italian Home Office, the Institute sponsored a seminar on the modernization of police officer training programs. The 1992 research program will consist of an empirical study on the effectiveness of the police-model experiment, legal regulation regarding police efficiency, international technical literature on police efficiency tests, and a study of the police-politics relationship. Other planned topics include refugees and persons with multiple nationalities; the role of the police in preventing drug- related delinquency; and the use of civil force to maintain the public safety.
