Six papers conflict intervention applications in a number of different settings -- the environment, prisons and other institutions, urban areas, and the international aena.
Abstract
The first article describes the successful application of mediation to environmental controversies. Other articles focus on the development of grievance procedures for dealing with client/provider conflicts in large institutions, notably correctional facilities. A major attempt to establish the utility of negotiation and mediation in formulating policy for urban areas is described in a paper on the Negotiated Investment Strategy experiments in St. Paul, Minn.; Columbus, Ohio; and Gary, Ind. The extension of conflict resolution techniques into the future and into the world-at-large is the subject of excerpts from the final report of the U.S. Commission on Proposals for the National Academy of Peace and Conflict Resolution. A final essay speculates on the future of community conflict resolution in the United States in the 1980's. References and tables accompany most papers. Sixteen selected resources are listed. For individual papers, see NCJ 93809-93812. (Author summary modified)
